Laboratory FAQS

Samples and shipping

How do I send you the samples?

The samples can be send personally or by post to our offices: Calle 20 de Noviembre #857, Colonia Obispado, Monterrey, Nuevo León, 64000.

How do I prepare my products before shipping them to you?

  1. Label all your products that you are going to send. Write the following information on the label:
    1. Name of the product
    2. Analysis to be performed
    3. Date of preparation
  2. According to the product characteristics, choose one.
    1. If your product has to be kept refrigerated or frozen, it is necessary to send it in a disposable cooler in express delivery, making sure that the package is always kept in optimal conditions.
      1. Add ice bags.
      2. The cooler cannot be returned.
    2. If your product can withstand room temperature, just make sure that it is sent in adequate conditions.

How many samples do I have to send?

For most analyses, minimum 500 grams are required.

In the case of shelf-life analysis, a minimum of 7 samples must be sent so that together they make up 500 g. Remember that to do this analysis you have to send your product in the package with which you are going to sell the product. As this also affects shelf life.

If the weight exceeds 500 g, there is no problem.

What happens if not enough sample arrives or if it arrives in poor conditions?

Because this will not work for the corresponding analyses, the sample has to be sent again. This is the customer’s responsibility.

When do I need an express delivery?

When the product being shipped is not stable at room temperature; when it must be kept refrigerated or frozen; or when the service is urgent.

Analysis

What is the difference between a Nutrition Table and a Theoretical Nutrition Table?

Nutrition Table are made by laboratory analysis methods and can be delivered under the NOM 051 (Mexico) o under the FDA regulations (USA). By making the Nutrition Table under any regulations, it helps to know the exact composition that your product contains, and this can be added to the label.

The Theoretical Nutritional Tables are made through database analysis, calculating the composition of the food with the formula and the process that is required for the production of the product to be analyzed. It can be delivered in the format of NOM 051 (Mexico) or under the FDA regulations (USA). In order to make this nutrition table, it is necessary for you to send us your formula (we will sign a non-disclosure agreement). When it comes to research and development, this analysis helps give enough information of the product.

What is the difference between a Nutrition Table from Mexico and the United States?

The Mexican nutrition table is made based on the Mexican Norms and it is mandatory to offer your product to the Mexican consumer. On the other hand, the U.S. nutrition table is required when importing the product into the United States. This means that the product has to comply with the standards of this country and one of them is the nutrition table, which has more specific requirements.

What is the difference between Label Review and Complete Label Elaboration?

The label review is about inspecting the label of your product according to the rules and correcting the errors that are found.

In the elaboration of the complete label, the label of the product is made from scratch according to the norm and according to your product. It is worth mentioning that label information is provided, not the design. This service includes the required nutrition table analysis. This service does not include shelf life analysis.

What is the difference between Label Elaboration in Mexico and the United States?

The elaboration of Mexican labels must comply with Mexican regulations established by the Secretariat of Health. The development of labels in the United States must comply with U.S. standards established by the FDA. These standards in the two countries have different requirements and are not the same, for this reason the service is different for each one.

How do I determine what microbiological analysis to do for my product?

Depending on the information you want to know about your product or the type of problem or need you have, is that the appropriate analysis is decided. In some cases the analysis may be required by an external party, if so you have to do those. For any inquiries, please contact: lab@fiqa.com.mx or our WhatsApp number (81)32508856.

How do I determine what physicochemical analysis to do for my product?

The appropriate physicochemical analyses are determined depending on the information you need to know about your product, the type of problem it presents and in some cases the analyses may be required by an external party or due to the chemical composition of the product. Sometimes this depends on the amount of water, fat, or nature of the product. This is also related to the type of problem present in the product.

The physicochemical analysis services offered are: pH, Aw (water activity), humidity (%), brix degrees (0-100), acidity (as citric acid) and peroxide index (meq/kg). The analysis includes interpretation of data. For any inquiries, please contact lab@fiqa.com.mx

What do you mean by microbiological analyses?

These are analyses of selected microorganisms that may be present in the product, process, environment, etc. The results are the amount of microorganisms in the analyzed sample. Analyses may include interpretation of the results by comparing those obtained with those established by standards.

What do you mean by physicochemical analyses?

These are analyses of the physicochemical properties of food. These refer to the amount of certain chemical characteristics of the products. An example of these may be the nutritional properties, acidity of the product, peroxide value or quantity of other chemical compounds specific to each analysis. These analyses can lead to different aspects of product quality. The results obtained can be compared with scientific or normative literature.

What are water analyses for?

Some of the physicochemical parameters in the water sample are evaluated. This serves to determine whether the water is suitable for drinking or for use in any process. There are a variety of analyses that can be performed, we performed some analyses mentioned in the NOM-127-SSA1-1994.

Deliveries

Why doesn't the shelf life have a delivery date?

This analysis depends on how long the life of the product lasts. If the product lasts longer in analysis, then it means it has longer shelf life. On the other hand if the product lasts shorter it means that its shelf life is shorter.

From what day is the delivery date calculated?

As soon as the sample arrives at FIQA and the payment for the analysis is made.

How do you start the analyses?

First you must choose which analysis you need and then you must send the necessary samples of your product. The information will be sent to your email in an expected time of 10 to 12 working days.

How long do the analyses take?

Most analyses have a delivery time of 10 to 12 working days. In the case of the shelf life analysis it is an exception because the completion time of this analysis is variable (may be weeks or months).

Why do several services ask for the recipe or formula, packaging measurements, manufacturing process and product information?

Because this information is necessary for the analysis to be carried out correctly. Information cannot be assumed because it is completely necessary to obtain reliable results. In case the information is not provided the analysis will not be performed. As long as incorrect information is shared the analyses made will be incorrect.

What happens to the information you share with us?

The information that is shared with FIQA is confidential, we sign a non-disclosure agreement in which we commit to protect your information and not share it.
